Chasing Signs
Do you ever feel like you're being guided by signs received in curious ways? I often do. Yesterday it was something simple, but quite obvious.
As you may know from my previous blog post The Master Destroyer, we have a very destructive highly energetic puppy with little to no manners. She is now six months old and continues to terrorize our family and home when she is bursting with energy and ready to play. Now, I do remember excellent advice from a vet over 10 years ago, regarding our first high energy puppy who has since passed away, "a tired puppy is a good puppy," which is absolutely true. When our new puppy is tired, she transforms into the sweetest loving calm puppy. The problem is, I have not made the time to wear her little butt out and the majority of the time she is hyper to the point of being somewhat crazy and is getting bigger and stronger by the minute, becoming more and more difficult to control.
It has been my intention to work with her, by getting her proper exercise and taking this wild thing to puppy training classes to tame her wild tendencies, teaching her to become more civilized. Plus puppy classes would give her the opportunity to socialize with her puppy peers, a much needed experience for all dogs. I had been putting off registering for puppy class, because our fall schedule has been super busy and I was hesitant to add yet another commitment to my planner. But now that she is fully vaccinated and spayed, I have no more excuses not to take her, plus her behavior is getting a little out of control.
Yesterday afternoon, I let the wild girl in from the backyard, thinking that she would be well behaved, because while outside she had been sleeping. A minute later, I found myself chasing her around the house. As soon as I let her in, she ran into the office and grabbed a piece of paper out of the stack of papers that were piled on the futon waiting for me to take care of and sort through. For her, it's a game of chase when she grabs things that she knows she's not supposed to have. It's fun for her to be chased. After a minute or so of her running circles around me, I cornered her. Since she had no place to go, she dropped the stolen piece of paper submissively.
I was shocked to see the piece of paper she had stolen was the business card of the dog trainer I had been meaning to contact. What are the odds that out of the thick pile of papers on the futon, she would grab that particular business card? Maybe it was pure coincidence, but I took it as a sign that this needed to be taken care of immediately. So I put our crazy puppy right back outside in the backyard and sat down to email the dog trainer.
